Halloween: Love it or hate it? by EM Lynley

I have some friends who think Halloween is the best holiday ever. They're already thinking up their costumes on November 1. They're clever and creative and people turn around when they show up at parties in their well-thought out costumes.
Then there's me. I dread Halloween. Absolutely detest it. I never know what to wear and if I do come up with an idea, I never really look like it, and people ask me "What are you?" So, I hate going to parties with the first group of friends. I could just rent an awesome costume, but for met that's kind of cheating. But yeah, I wouldn't mind showing up as a perfect Marie Antoinette or a 20s flapper. It didn't seem so difficult in college when I wore a leopard-print sheet as Cleopatra or a vintage dress and hat and became Greta Garbo. Now, I'm a Halloween failure.

I've definitely realized Halloween is one of those love-or-hate events.

Race Wilcox, the main character in my Halloween novella Disguises, is another person who'd like to hide away when everyone else is discussing their costumes. Ironically, he's an actor. Dressing up as someone else on set is "work" but when his network forces him to attend a Halloween party, it's torture. He knows everyone will judge him on how he dresses and try to read into his psyche. To make matters worse, his co-star and best friend Derrick Steele is one of the people who love Halloween.

Luckily for Race, this Halloween he finds out something he didn’t know about Derrick, or himself. Whether you love or hate Halloween, check out what happens when these two actors drop their Disguises, from Dreamspinner Press. Also available from Amazon.com.

Now, do you love or hate Halloween? And what are you going to dress up as this year?

Em,

I love Halloween. I don't dress up in costume, but I enjoy giving out treats to the little guys coming to the door dressed in so many creative outfits.

It's my favorite holiday.

Thanks for stopping by, Mary! I do love to see kids dressed up. I enjoyed trick-or-treating as a kid, but I still always felt like everyone else's costume was better. But now, even though I'm envious of their creativity and costuming ability, I do love to see how people dress up.

Haven't dressed up for a long time, but one of my faves (from my single days lol) was going as Isadora Duncan, in just tights and a very flowing top. Great post!
