I have a few confessions to make. I'm not a fan of technology. There, I said it. I could do happily without cell phones, video games, ipods and even computers. Now, that said these are things that I use daily and it would be difficult to do without them but I have to wonder if we'd all be better off without them. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Glee. My goodness, we even have 3D televisions now and computers that will run your entire house!
There are kids and adults alike who spend more time socializing online than in person. We depend so much on technology to wake us up, keep us entertained and even hook us up with a date. I often think back to a time when we didn't have so many of these new and great ideas and sigh with memories of a simpler time. These devices cause stress and unrest at times.
In the old days, and by old I mean about 20 years ago, kids played outside and people met one another at parties or through friends. 40 years ago you had to actually get off of the couch to change the channel and block parties were considered a fun Saturday night.
Long ago cursing on tv and showing partial cleavage was considered taboo and now, as a society, we're desensitized to those kind of things. Even in ebook publishing it seems that authors are pushing further and further into unheard of 'limits'.
Many of you will tell me I'm wrong that technology is the wave of the future and you're probably right. I'll keep writing ebooks and print alike because I enjoy reading both. But if you see me with a smile on my face, know that I'm secretly wishing for the simpler times of yesterday.
What technology is your must have?

I could actually live without a cell phone. A computer, I couldn't. I need email. GB, Twitter and the rest, I can take it or leave it.
We finally broke down and bought a Wii for Christmas but our son still plays outside with the neighbors and rides his bike.
Confession.......I like ebooks and print books, too.
Harlie, I'm glad you like ebooks and print books as well. I like the combination of the two myself. Email is instantaneous. Could you imagine if we had to wait for the pony express? OMG, we'd die of impatiently waiting! haha
Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Kissa,
Awesome post. I could not live without my laptop, but I also believe there is a place for both digital and print publishing to coexist, as they answer different needs.
And yeah, it's good to unplug from some of the technology from time to time and breathe the fresh air outdoors.

Kissa,
I figure my computer is a part of my job. Creating ebooks and trying to advertise them online. This is one thing I need.
Cell phones I could do without. Whenever I have to go somewhere and forget my cell phone,(maybe I do this on purpose) I get a royal chewing out from my son and sister. They ask me why I didn't bring my phone along, but the things they need to reach me for aren't earth shaking. LOL
I do have a FB account, but there are days that I seldom use it. This was another thing my sister thought I couldn't live without. LOL
I'm with you, Kissa, let's get rid of our stress filled days by eliminating some of these modern conveniences.
Wonderful blog, Kiss.
Great post, Kissa. The interaction with others is or should be a must do but it seems more and more of us hibernate behind our computer monitor. I carry a cell phone for just in case, I drive 26 miles to work, but rarely talk on it. Hate to admit this, but someone would have to pry my fingers off my desktop to take it from me. Well I gotta write and don't even think of taking my high speed. On the other hand, I don't have cable or dish or Wii. Can't stand Twitter, even though I have an account. Check Facebook in the morning and evening, that's it. But I do think young children should be limited to technology. They should be outside playing, using their imagination.
Mary Suzanne- I remember when I vowed to never by a cell phone but then they gave you long distance and I could call my grandmother for 'free' virtually and call to check on my son when we were out of town. I've had one ever since. People in my family get upset if they call and I don't answer. In fact my son calls other people before calling me because he says I never answer. I tell them the phone is for my convenience, not theirs!
Cassie- I would sure miss my computer too but I think I'd get over it. Definitely agree about limiting technology for kids, especially those video games. And I love my high speed internet too!
Thanks for stopping by!!!
Even though I use my computer a lot if it were not for me working on it I could do without. Same goes for my cell. One thing I can't live without is my IPod because I need my music. Great post Kissa.
Wow, Kissa, I totally agree with you! One thing that irks the bejeezus out of me is my cell phone, and my youngest dau texts like today is the last day on earth.
However, my one techie thing I couldn't live without is my laptop. I type over 100 words per min, so I make excellent progress when I write. If I had to return to pen and paper, tho, I'd be screwed. My poor fingers can't handle clenching a pen or pencil for very long, and my handwriting after a while looks like Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Savannah, I love the music too but still use a record player a lot. (Is that considered techie in this day and age?)
Faith- that texting is crazy. I bet my son can TEXT 100 words per minute. I've never seen such a thing. As far as the paper and pen, I do enjoy writing that way some times but my hands would never hold up to the amount of typing I do these days.
Thanks to both of you for stopping by!
