Fact or Fiction?

With the end of the year so close, and a brand new Christmas themed BDSm book just released, I've been trying to attend more chats lately. I've been asked one question multiple times and I thought it was interesting enough to revolve my monthly blog post around the topic.

They wanted to know if my stories often revolved around personal fantasies or turn ons of mine. They answer to this is a definite, YES! I write erotica, as you all know, and if I'm writing a sex scene that doesn't trip my trigger at least a little bit then I feel like it will be dull for the reader. I often enhance or play up a few of the things my main characters find arousing but still the general idea or principle is something that gets my own juices flowing. I just have to work like that. If I'm not turned on then I need to write something different or change the scene somehow. I also find little personal quirks of my own that will make it into my stories. I don't often realize it until i'm in editing or the proofing process but lots of my main characters carry pieces of myself in them. I guess thats why they all live in my head and not someone else's.

Several of th authors at the chats said that they distance themselves from their writing meaning they don't let personal traits or personal feelings fall into and affect their stories but for me i can't imagine not doing it. I put a piece of myself in everything i write and hopefully the readers appreciate what I do and the fact that i try to make each story more personal. Combine all my characters together and you'll get most of me. ^_^
Merry day after Christmas everyone. I hope you aren't all out shopping in the post holiday crowds. The lines at my local mall were just frightening this morning.

You're right, Beth. If we don't get excited by our own work, who will? Great post!
