Happy Halloween/Samhain!

Halloween is a holiday which many people associate with trick o' treating, pumpkins, and costumes. However, it has its roots in various other holidays, one of which is Samhain.

Samhain is an ancient Celtic holiday celebrating the harvest and the end of summer. For some it was the beginning of a new calendar year. Many modern pagans today celebrate this holiday as part of their calendar, and it composes one of the Sabbats on the Wiccan Wheel of the Year. Wiccans and some modern pagans take this time to honor the passing of their ancestors, family, and friends as a general day of the dead.

What do you associate with this time of the year most? If you wanted to take the time to honor lost and/or renewed family and acquaintances, how would you do so? What do you do to mark milestones and occasions in your life?
