I had a huge writing day yesterday and it got me to thinking about some of the characters in my stories. I've been asked many times if the people in my books are imaginary or based on real people I know. I have to say that it is a bit of both. I'll often take personality traits or quirks that really stand out from lots of my friends or relatives and combine them into one character. I can actually picture the book characters in my mind and they often appear in my dreams. I get some of my best ideas for conversations and storylines while I sleep.
Anyway the answer is my characters are a combination of both real life and fictional bits, you just have to read and pay attention to figure out what is real and what isn't. LOL

Most of my characters are almost entirely fictional, but I think I put bits and pieces of real people into them (including bits of me). Some of them end up more like people I know than others. :)
I think a lot of authors draw a bit on their real lives to make characters and situations.
