A good book offers an escape from every day problems.

A brutal economy isn’t helping much in the writing industry. Lately, I’ve been reading several posts on our MSA site about the subject. I believe everyone looks forward to that little glimmer of light where the economy’s concerned, hoping that we’ll get a breakthrough soon.

I’m surprised we haven’t had more publishing houses go under. A year or so ago, there were several that closed within weeks of each other. That was devastating to quite a few authors. It seemed like a rippling effect.

Now that we have a new president and he’s working with a stimulus package to stir the economy, let’s hope his plan works. It would be wonderful to put a book out there and have a hit, making a lot of money in sales.

To me, reading a book takes me away from everyday problems. While reading, it’s easy to forget the bad economy and skyrocketing prices at the grocery stores and gasoline pumps as you enter the fantasy world for a short time. Let’s hope that e-book readers feel the same way even with a bad economy and the book sales surge.

Do others reading this blog forget your every day problems while reading a good book?

Be sure and look for my book Angel in Blue.

A book can totally make me forget about the world around me. I love to live vicariously through characters so I can go to France, Hollywood, wherever they seem to be! The ebook business is going to BOOM you just watch! The publishing world is cutting back so much that there is no where for ebooks to go but up! Thanks for the awesome blog!

Thank you for your wonderful response.

I usually feel so disappointed when I finish a book. I like the book to go on and on.

I'm hoping others feel the same way when it comes time to purchase a book. Getting away from every day pressures and losing myself in the world of the many characters in a book is a tremendous experience for me.

I agree with the result of reading. It is a fantastic way to get away from the every day problems. I can't afford to buy as many books as I did before but I am still buying some.

Reading is great entertainment for everyone, Phyllis. Just that little bit of time without a worry or care is worth it.

I love a really good book with unforgettable characters. One that when I put it down, it makes me want to laugh, sing, dance, just enjoy all the postive emotions from the book.

I would think books with happy endings would be in more demand in this economy. Everyone needs to be uplifted, not depressed by a sad story.

Jami,

I'm with you about the contents of a book I'm reading.

I love a happy ending. If I find a little humor in the story, it makes my day.

I think that reading a book is a wonderful way to get away from it all. This stimulus package...that's another thing we'll all want to get away from soon. Environmentally green golf courses and company jets? Give me a break!

I know what you mean, Kissa, but the every day Joe doesn't have much of a say anymore about where our money is going.

Love that book title, Mary.

Yep, books can take you away. Who needs Calgon? lol

The stimulus package holds great promise for all of us. I'm particular excited about the tax credit to home buyers. I think that one is a real winner.
