I've always known this time of year as 'The Silly Season', because of the amount of work involved and the sheer silliness of the lengths some people go to. The mad dashes around the stores, the infectious and often shifting moods of the children and that feeling that you're never quite going to get everything done in time.
So, adding writing to all of this, all of the work and preparations, would seem to be an impossibility. Yet, it isn't.
Is it?
I'm snatching moments here and there, trying to play catch up on emails, writing when I can, spending time with the children and reading through submissions. An all ready long day has become that little bit longer and all though this might sound odd, I'm looking forward to the return of a more normal day.
I keep looking at the things I have to do before Christmas morning.
There's fake fur to add to the home made stockings.
The tree still has to go up.
Baking has to be done.
The ham has to be collected from the store - hm - did we even order it?
Then there are the blizzards...
Someone, I don't know who, dumped over a foot of snow on us yesterday and clearing the drive way, even with a snow blower and me out there with the snow shovel, took nearly an hour. An hour that the children enjoyed rolling around in the snow and trying to walk through it. By the time that was over we were all drained. So - there went my writing time for the day!
Oh well, it's only once a year and the children go back on Jan 5th.
I can snatch a little writing time here and there - I'm sure I can...
Maybe.

I'm the same way. So much to do and so little time!
