Book trailers!

What do people think of book trailers? Do they influence your book purchases?

I had a wonderful book trailer made for me by my editor, and it got me thinking about the Internet as a media for discussing and showcasing books. Have people used book trailers before as a marketing tool? Or have you yourself viewed book trailers on YouTube or elsewhere? What did you think of them? Did they influence what you thought about the book at all?

Here's both the YouTube and my website hosted versions (the website is better):

A much better quality video is here:

I can see where the need for them is good cause it is like a commercial. The more you see of it, the more you want to get it hopefully. You get a glimpse into the book and it's a lot more fun than just reading words. :)

I believe book trailers help in advertising released books and coming soon books.

I love the mini movies of books. I've purchased books based on them before. Around a year ago I started collecting them for my website. I have around 300 romance/erotic romance based videos available to watch. They are all in categories and easy to watch. Many I also have purchase links to make it easy to find out how to get them.

Come and have fun - Bring some popcorn and watch away - http://www.nightowlromance.com/nightowlromance/BookFlicks/bfindex.asp

I love book trailers. They're like watching the blurb. I'll scan through them on youtube or watch them on someone's myspace, website, or facebook if they have one.

I've made two myself.

They're really fun to make, or at least I think they are. I'm just not sure if they have helped my sales.

I'm getting into book trailers more - loveyoudivine has a youtube channel now - www.youtube.com/loveyoudivine and I've made one of my own - with a video of me reading an excerpt!

I recently saw some of Brendan Myers bookt railers - love those - not least because he does a voice over and he's so lovely to listen to. Shameless fangirl strikes again!

It seems that a lot of people enjoy them, and it does influence people to at least check out the blurbs and excerpts for the related books.

It's good to hear. I'm always on the lookout for creative mediums and avenues of literary expression, and had always wondered if book trailers were useful or overrated. I'm glad to hear that they're useful! :)

Thanks Savannah! I love Emmy's work--she's awesome. :D

Trailers seem to be the "wave of the future" for books, I think....
