I have always been fascinated by tattoos...Why you might ask?I think it's because it is a great form of expression, and the fact that a person puts themselves through the pain for expression is something amazing.
I have wanted a tattoo since I was a teenager. I had always planned on getting one and just kept putting it off. I wasn't scared. It was just the fact that I liked too many tattoos. I also wanted to have something different. I know many people have a rose or a animal and it's something very common.
I wanted the perfect tattoo.... I have seen some pretty amazing tattoos. Just a few weeks ago while I was at a signing for my fave author I met a girl who had a full back tattoo of a magical tree with fairies sitting on it. The tattoo had faces on the tree and spanned all the way down her back and her legs. It was gorgeous....
I still plan on getting a tattoo I just have to make the time to go and find a good artist to do it.
I know people are fascinated by tattoos and the designs and I have asked people the types they have, but I still wonder...What appeals to you about a tattoo? Why did you get one if you do have one?
For me they are beautiful and express a person. They have a meaning that is special to each owner.
So why am I talking about tattoos? Well I have a new book out called Pleasure After The Pain from Red Rose Publishing and it's all about the pleasure a tattoo can bring to it's owner.
Here is a tease ...
What is your wildest fantasy about getting a tattoo? A night out on the town with a friend ends up bringing Serene to a tattoo parlor. There she discovers a tattoo that takes a hold of her. Something about it calls to her. Body art can bring pleasure to its owner but this tattoo brings more pleasure then Serena ever imagined. Will Serena's tattoo give her more pleasure than she could imagine or will it be a fleeting moment of pleasure after the pain?

hmmm...well, I'm thinking about getting a tat. But I'm terrified of the pain too.
Why am I thinking about it? well, that's a story unto itself. Let' put it this way, it will be on my ass and it will be like a stamp of ownership by a certain someone. lol
And hidden there, it will make me feel oh sooooo naughty too!
Love the book cover, hot excerpt girlie. Good Luck with this one!
I'm fascinated by tattoos, also. I've always wanted one, but haven't gotten one yet. Not because I'm afraid of the pain, though. I just want it to be the right one. I've considered a dragon, because I was born in the year of the dragon. But I'd also like it to express my writing. Another writer friend of mine has a quill, and a drop of ink for each published work. I think that's such a beautiful sentiment. But I can't be a copycat, LOL.
Love the bookcover, by the way.
Helen
I actually have quite a few tattoos. Each one has a special symbolism to me and they're like little snapshots of my life on my skin.
I have two small flowes (an orchid over my heard and a rose bud on my ankle) - my starter tattoos
Then I have the cartouche of the egyptian god Amun-Ra an my left butt cheek.
The right butt cheek has a celtic knotwork pentagram.
My full back (outline is done but I need to save money for colo) is a huge proliferation of flowers and hummingbirds with white space as if someone had drug their fingers through wet paint.
My right arm has a celtic knotwork band made of thorny thistles. It's from one of my books.
My left arm has the Nile River goddess drawing down the moon admidst a lighting storm with three stars under her and perched on a celtic crescent moon with a raven cawing overhead
I have more planned. They're addictive. Pain really doesn't scare me much and Ilove the result.
I actually do have a little story to go with my tattoo.
I was newly divorced and suddenly the single mother of a baby boy. There had been a sudden flurry of deaths in my family, including both my parents, grandparents and a female cousin my age by suicide.
My life was in a tailspin and I wanted to do something rebellious.
Something that would mark me permanently on the outside.
Tats were illegal in my state at the time, so through a friend I found an artist who did them from his house to pay his way through Art School.
I arrived on a Spring day and gave him my design. The Sun and Moon entwined. To me it represented balance which was sorely lacking in my life. All I could afford was the outline, so we agreed to schedule color at another time.
He started to work on my left shoulder blade and a women's voice came drifting through a closed door. Turns out his SO was an Opera singer, so, I listened to her practice aria's while I got my tat.
It was a strange, dreamy, altogether lovely experience. As I have a high pain threshold, I found the whole thing relaxing.
By the time I had enough money to get color added they had moved away to parts unknown.
So, that's my little tat story. I would like to get another small one right at the nape of my neck. However, they are legal now so it kind of takes all the fun out of it. :)
Tess- wow love the stamp of ownership.......when you get it you gotta show me the design
Helen- find your own way to celebrate and express, do something that you will love and never get tired of
Laura- I would love to see a photo of all your work, it sounds truly fantastic
Glsmeltr- wow that's one amazing story..I hope that one day you can finish it....
Thank you guys for coming over and telling me your amazing stories
I don't have any tattoos but I would love to get a few. I think that tattooing is an art form and tattoos are art. I love how creative they can be, how beautiful they are, the stories behind them. It's all so fascinating.
I have a few tat's & again each represents a meaningful period in my life. My first is an anklet of irises & orchids in purples & pinks. The leaves & vines are intertwined to spell out my grandmother's name & her dob & dod. The second tat I got a year & a half ago & it's a phoenix in flight & it's trailing feathers & flames. It circles around to the right & becomes a pile of feathers & ashed & the final circle brings a baby phoenix rising up out of the ashes. I got it to remind me that no matter what life throws at me I can survive & begin again.
I have two tattoos.
The first, I got 12 years ago. I was reuniting with my estranged husband and rediscovering myself, as a person. It's a large (4x5" or so) tattoo of a lion cub on the back of my right shoulder. I'd always wanted a tattoo, and it was a form of taking back my life and expressing that I was my own person. My husband wasn't upset. He even went with me to get the tatt. He has two of his own, both hand-tapped, so he was very supportive of this move.
The second is brand new. I just got it this summer...on our 20th wedding anniversary. My husband paid for it for me, actually. It's two of the glyphs I created for my Night Warriors world (ZelJee, which means "Death and Justice") on my right ankle. That particular tattoo has been burning at me for eons! I finally got around to it.
I got my tat about four years ago. I had lost about 30lbs and my husband actually suggested that I get one to commemorate the occasion. I decided to get a butterfly on my shoulder as a symbol of the new me.
Next comes the "tramp stamp." :)
Selena- oh if you ever get one I would love to see it..I think you would look so amazing with a tattoo
Dawn- all those tattoos sound so wonderful, I would really love to see them
Brenna- wow those tattoos are great. I have a feeling once I get one I will want more
Kensana- oh wow, congrats on the loss and for sure that is something to celebrate
Tattoos fascinate me, too. I don't have any. I AM afraid of the pain. I'm such a wuss. ;-)
I think a lot of thought needs to go into a tattoo since you have it for life. I've seen some beaufiful tattoos but I've seen some shockers as well and wondered what on earth the person was thinking!
Great topic.
These are some great tattoo stories, Savannah - congrats on the new release, fabulous cover, too!
You know my story: My heroine made me do it! Merry Delaney, in The Merry Widow, got a butterfly tattoo as part of claiming her new self. That idea kept niggling at me until I finally realizes she'd done what I wanted to do - so I got my first tat, a butterfly, last May!
Adriana
Shelly- there is something that grabs the attention of a person when it comes to tattoos...They are unique and such amazing form of art
Adriana- you are not alone...My heroine is making me do it..I gave her a set of wings and now it is my turn....
