Art imitating life?

I just celebrated my anniversary and it made me start thinking. How much do my life experiences affect what I write? As a teenager, I dated other men but I met my husband by age nineteen. After dating for four years, we married and have been mostly happy ever since.

I write erotic romance and erotica. The erotica stories don’t necessarily have to have a happy ending but all my stories have a HEA. I have only one published work that has the female character divorced and starting over. In today’s society, I know divorce very prevalent but I still tend to stick with the late twenty to early thirty characters falling in love and marrying for the first time.

However, this doesn’t mean that all my relationships are m/f. I write m/f, m/m/f & m/m relationships, which doesn’t apply to my lifestyle but a girl has to have fantasies. Even one married as long as I have been.

So, do you think the relationships you write or tend to read reflect your lifestyle?

BTW, I write mostly paranormal and sci-fi erotic romance but I'm not under the delusion of being a vamp, werewolf or alien. Though at times, I'm told I am a witch.

Interesting, Laura. Reflect my lifestyle? No. Not in so far as age or situations of the characters. But I suppose my opinions are scattered across the pages.

I like characters and endings to be real. And therefore rarely write about something I can't make real.

Great blog.

There are things I use in stories that may reflect a little of my personality. This shows through in some of my characters. Mostly though, the rest of the story is pure fantasy.

I do love a HEA ending in all my stories. I feel so letdown if I read a story where the couple go separate ways. Call me a romantic at heart. LOL

I'd better close because I'm just on the point of starting to ramble.

Hi, Tess & Mary,

Thanks for commenting.

Interesting thoughts Laura.

My romances reflect future relationships since I write about menages mostly...funny thing? I'm owned by two powerful Women. Just not formally.

Hmmm, hard to imagine you as a witch... and I agree, probably none of us who write erotica/erotic romance are werewolves, or have experienced serious time travel or so many of the other things we write about - but we use our real feelings, and ground our stories in something true and heartfelt, whatever the details.

Nope, my characters do not reflect my experiences. I write m/m, and my characters are rarely like me in any way. I suppose some of them are a bit geeky, which I am. :)
