Today I'm going to pose an interesting question to all the readers and writers out in cyberspace. What is a Blog really for? I want to know what you like to read when you check out a blog. Do you like to see excerpts or new release info? What about personal tidbits in an author's daily life? (We're just regular humans, you know, with way too much imagination. LOL) How about writing tips or how we try to juggle the wild world of being published? I want to hear from you. Leave me a comment about what you'd like to see from me in my next blog and the suggestion I get the most is what I'll blog about next month. See ya then. I'm off to work on some edits for my newest release coming July 19th from Torquere Press. Have a great day!

Good blog, Beth...thought provoking. I primarily use blogs (and I have three major ones plus a couple minor ones) to let potential readers of my work know the human being behind the words. I firmly believe a potential reader will be much more prone to pick up a book by someone he/she thinks they know rather than that of a complete stranger. Each of my blogs has a different approach, but all have the same purpose.

Hi Beth. A good question! All the things you mentioned are fair game on a blog, but I think the personal sometimes gets out of hand. I've seen writers' blogs where the writer goes into detail about her diet or taking her dog to the vet. I know both of those loom very large on some people's horizon, but they don't make interesting reading, in my opinion. In addition to details about their worksI like to see opinions and observations of authors, things that may not be verbatim in their writing but will be reflected there.

I like to see all of those things on a writer's blog. Even the trip to the vet with the dog is fine if it is kept lively and interesting.
Hi Beth. I suppose it depends on the blog. I would start with an author's blog about what's on his/her mind, lets me get to know the author behind the written work. The daily activity of an author - less so. I'll go to an excerpts blog because an author has mentioned it which leads me to books I didn't know of and on to another author's blog!

Hello Beth,
I keep a Blog and I wouldn't say it's an author Blog primarily. It was supposed to be but didn't turn out that way.
I guess when I read a Blog I'm drawn to experiences told with honesty, whatever those experiences may be. I'm a bit of a voyuer at heart, and I think most people are. They like a window into the Blog author's soul, a chance to compare notes as to what someone else, who may lead a completely different existence to them, is doing with thier life. Personally or professionally.
What I have noticed while cruising the Blogosphere is how quickly Blogs vanish when day to day normality is the only source of reading. The ones that seem to stay around the longest are the ones that do allow readers to get closer. To feel as though there's a definite connection between them and the Blog writer. Just an observation.
If it's entertaining or thought provoking, I'll read it. No matter the content topic.
Interesting question you posed!
Best Wishes,
Zathyn
Hey Beth,
I like a bit of everything. Releases, what's happening, any other interesting topic. It's diversity really.
My niece loves to list the words to songs on her blog. It drives me up a wall. LOL. But I love her *Grins*
Hi Beth,
I'm not a published writer(yet) so I post about me life; getting the cat spaded, my daughter showing a goat at the chowchilla fair, and my step-dad's surgery are all something I've posted about.
When I do become a published writer I will ad excerpt from my books, and links to where to buy them.
Janice~
