Ok I feel a little good...ich, this month I'm not talking about sex. Gasp! So what am I talking about?
Kids and writing or should I say trying to write.
As anyone who has read any of my bios knows I’m a stay at home mom, and I have a hyperactive 4 yr old daughter. So finding time to write, clean, deal with household issues, and do everything else I have to do. But it’s not impossible, scheduling is my best friend.
Even then it’s hard to concentrate on a romantic or erotic scene when you have Barney or Scooby Doo blaring in the background. On the other hand they’re great when you want to sneak in some extra writing or get those last minute edits done. Turn them on and she’s mesmerize. I swear there’s something hypnotic about that, “I Love You” song. Although you maybe interrupted by the occasional scream of laughter or off key singing. Which is actually kinda cute.
So today I pose this question to all the mommy and daddy writers, how do you find the time?
With work, promos, cleaning, and all the other things you need to do.
How do you find time to write?
Get up extra early.- I used to do this when I worked. I’d get up at 4am write till 6 take a shower get ready, then write till I had to leave or my daughter woke, which ever was first.
Writing after the kids go to bed.- Been there, fell asleep. Just kidding. This actually seems to be the best idea so far. At least for me. It’s quiet, I can turn on some music, relax and just go with flow.
So Mommies & Daddies how do you do it? What’s your secret?
{I have to give credit where credits due, this blog was inspired by a thread over on Romance Divas about stay at home mom’s schedules.}

Great article. I don't know how you do it. Especially with time consuming groups and your review site. It sounds daunting.

It takes a lot of scheduling.
But sometimes I still want to rip my hair out, lol, but then I take a deep breath count to five and feel better.
Thanks Dee
I too have wondered how author parents cope with the scheduling demands.
I don't have kids but my sister does. She also runs a day care in her home. I spent a few days visiting there last month and those kids wore me out! I don't know how she does it all the time!
I applaud the authors who can juggle the family life and the writing life.

I don't have any kids, so I really can't imagine what it's like to try to write with them. All you crazy parent / authors have me in awe!
I was hoping someone would have the answer here!
I wish I knew how to manage it all. Truthfully, at my house something always has to give. If I'm rushing to meet a deadline or just trying desperately to immerse myself in a new story, I have to warn my friends that I'm headed into my cave. I warn my husband that the house is about to get messy, and I beg my son for just a few extra minutes without interruption.
I'm not good with schedules and I'm NOT a morning person. So generally I write during school hours and after bedtime. School vacations are writing vacations for me. I'm a mother first. :)

Good topic, Jade!

I tried, Cassandra, but they're really tough to hold onto. I found I had to hold them upside down, and even then, they wiggled a lot, and not much came out on the page but a whole lot of giggling.
Kidding! (well, they do giggle when you hold them upside down, but that's another story.)
It is a tough go. Not only am I a stay at home mom, but I home school and I do actually work part of the year in the evenings. It isn't easy!
Scheduling, I'm afraid, is somewhat beyond me, which doesn't help, as I've figured out with this reviewing gig, but I'm learning to get a handle on it. I have to if I want any time for my own projects. The midnight hours and I are on intimate terms. Sleep? Not so much. Thing is, as hard as it is, I wouldn't trade it for the world, the kids or the writing, so I guess we just do what we have to do for the love of it all.
Why, yes, I am a little bit crazy, why do you ask?
Oh, and having a partner who understands and is willing to sacrifice a bit of his own time, both to look after the kids sometimes, and to give up some of the extra cuddle time he might like to have doesn't hurt either. :p
Jaime
I dont know how you do it either but more props to you for doing it all!!
You are super woman!
Mila.
Wendi- Same here my daughter is my world, when people ask what I do it's stay at home mom/writer the mom always comes first.
Jamie- How do you do it? I'm in total awe of you. You're my hero. Seriously kids, a job, writing, & reviewing. WOW!
I find the time the same way I would if I had kids...
I make it. All else can bite me lol!
