Outside the Box- The RT experience

Oh no, not another post about Romance Times!

Stop, back up and take a look.

I have a story to tell you...

Take two small presses, one e-press, one print press and put them together at RT 2007 in Houston. Combine with several long talks and a plan was hatched.

Mojocastle Press, a small but very good e-press, and Under the Moon, a micro print press, have spent the last year working together toward launching Mojo's print line fully at RT this year.

Yeah, yeah, come on, another small press jumps into print and will crash, burn and die within a year from overstretching themselves, so what else is new?

How about a print program that works for Amazon sales, convention sales and small signings at coffee shops, faires, etc - and side steps the big book stores that are, quite frankly, often unwilling to work with small press and e-press?

Uh, huh, and I have a piece of land out in the swam...

No, seriously, we proved this year that how these two companies work together actually WORKS. And, thanks to RT, we were allowed to sell the books at the convention through Club RT and on Saturday outside of the book fair with the other dealers.

Okay, so where's the catch?

Honestly, there wasn't one. We did damn good and then some.

We proved that an unusual format doesn't put the readers off, in fact they liked it. The cover felt good in their hands.

What we did was outside the box in many ways and sometimes - no - a lot of the times, publishers and authors need to remember there will be times when you have to be willing to step outside of the box.

Yeah I'd say what you did was out of the box. Congrats and here's to more success!

Things like that are often hard to put together due to time constraints, limiting beliefs and fear but it seems as though you conuqered them all!
