Wow, so I was looking at all the fantastic book covers we have posted here and I grew curious as to how everyone chooses from the mounds of books vying for your attention. Do you reach for books because of the cover design? Are you a blurb sponge? Perhaps it's a combination of both? Or something else?
And as for reading them, what makes you hungry to devour them? Is it a great compelling plot? The length? The SEX? What is it that consumes you? Also, what is it about them that makes you cast it aside? I know lots of questions, apparently I woke up very hungry this morning.*evil grin*lol.

Good morning, AnneMarie! Covers play a big role in the books I choose. If I'm not looking for a particular book or a specific author I gravitate toward interesting covers, then read the blurb for my final decision.
And the single most important element in finding a good read for me is how engrossed I become in the characters. If I fall in love with the characters I'm hooked and I'll follow them through anything. :) I don't mind a hot sex scene or two, either. ;0)

My, my AnneMarie, you are inquisitive this morning LOL. I'm a creature of habit and tend to stick with authors that I like. However, a good blurb and attractive cover will usually pull me towards new names.
I wont say that a cover isn't something that makes me look at the book, you cant help it..If the cover is interesting and catches my eye I will look at the book, i think even the tittle of a book does the trick too...
I'm a book aholic so i read read read
If it's not the author, it's the coverart then the blurb for me. But I've been duped before, NICE coverart *wg* and an okay or good story, not a great story and CERTAINLY not hot sex...
You guys sooooo ROCK~I'm enjoying your thoughts here...Thanks so much!

The first thing I look at is the cover. From there I read the back cover to see what the book has to say to me. If it's compelling and reaching out to me, I usually buy the book.

It's a combination of the cover and the blurb that makes me buy a book, but it's definitely the cover that catches my eye first, for sure! The hotter and sexier, the better! LOL!

I'm such a visual creature, that it's the cover that catches my attention first, then I slide on to the blurb, and the excerpt.
Like Paige, the hotter, the better. WOOT!!
I love reading something that seems so real, I react to it. Heavy breathing, smiling, saying woo-hoo, LOL.
Great post AnneMarie!!
I'm with Paige, too - the cover has to grab me, though if I already know the author I can overlook a mediocre cover. Blurb is next, and then I read an excerpt, whether on line or in a bookstore. I have to know I like the voice. I'll come back to an author if I've loved the characters and the stories.

The cover always catches my eye first but I usually read the blurb and excerpt too. However if I don't like the cover I might not even look at it.
Great post!
Hi AnneMarie, Yes an interesting cover can be compelling, however, as we all know, the cover doesn't always convey what's inside. To me the title is important. It's probably a snapshot of the story and of course the blurb is important.
I've read many books with truly hideous covers that were great, so I try not to judge a book by its cover.
That said, attractive colors and appealing people on covers do draw my eye, making me more likely to read the blurb and excerpt.
Ok. Lots of questions. So I'm just going to assume they all involve sex somehow and answer with an appropriate yes. That will do it.
Hugs,
Tess
